FRANCO, LEO VINCENT AND VILLANUEVA, NOEMIE, "Design and Development of Microcontroller-Based Coffee Vending Machine". Undergraduate Design Project_ Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2006_ Adviser: Mr. Bienvenido C. Sarmiento.
The microcontroller-based coffee vending machine was designed and developed at Alfonso, Cavite. The microcontroller-based coffee vending machine is capable of accepting 5-peso coins and returns the correct change automatically if the amount of the inserted coins exceeded the default purchase price. The hardware of the system consisted of the coin acceptor, 1-peso coin changer, the circuit containing the programmed PIC 16F877 which controls the operation of the whole system, the dip switch for setting the price of the coffee, the dispenser responsible for dispensing the coffee, the large coffee tank of 4-liter capacity containing the mixed coffee to be dispensed, the small coffee tank containing the volume of coffee ready to be dispensed at each vend, the empty sensor and tank full level sensor, responsible in monitoring the level of coffee on the tanks. Assembly language is used to develop the software of the system. The PIC 16F877 was programmed to control the operation of the whole system. The program was composed of subroutines that controls different processes based on inputs from the coin chute and sensors. During the testing of the machine, different parameters like LED switching dispensing time limiting and changer motor timing were -adjusted to meet the desired requirements.
The machine was evaluated to determine the time to dispense a given volume of coffee and the precision of dispensing. The average time to dispense 220 cc of coffee was 60 seconds and the standard deviation of dispensing time was 0.01936 second. The machine accepts 5-peso coins only, dispense coffee automatically and gives back the accurate change.
