JAVIER, OLIVE delos SANTOS. "A Study on the Production of Upland Rice in Cavite". Undergraduate Theis, Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics, Don Severino Agricultural, College, indang, Cavite. April 1994. Dr. Maria A. Ersando, Adviser.
1994,
This study was conducted from November 1993 to January in four selected towns of Cavite namely Alfonzo, General Trias, Magallanes and Naragondon covering the
production period of 1993. This study aimed to determine some basic characteristics of upland rice farmers, to determine the kind and amount of resources used in upland rice production, to determine the average production of upland rice in farms of various size and to identify the problems encountered by farmers in producing upland rice. Needed information were gathered through personal interview with the farmer respondents using interview schedules. The production practices of upland rice growers include preparation of the land by plowing and harrowing, planting, weeding, fertilization, control of pest and diseases and harvesting. The common variety of upland rice raised by the respondents were C-1, IR-75, Ir-76, B-3, R-5, R-10, C1-7, C-11, saglay and pataybundok. The average volume of palay
harvested was 44 cavans per farm with an average size of 1.0
hectare farm .
The upland rice growers had an average total return per of P 22,108.22 and a total return per hectare of P 15,041.75. The net income was P 10,264.62 per farm and the average net income per hectare was P 3,256.78. The problems encountered on the production and management of upland rice farmers included the occurrence of pest and diseases, birds, milli bugs, and rice leaf folders. Farmers used chemicals such as Machete, Thiodan, Azodrin and 240's twice per production period. High cost of inputs such as fertilizer and chemicals, poor road and low price of upland rice were some problems encountered in marketing while lack of water supply, lack of capital, tungro disease, and natural calamities were problems on production.
