GUERRERO, WILFREDO L. " Assessing Crop Production Practices of Farmers in Upland Cavite with Pineapple as Component Crop, Undergraduate thesis , Don Severino Agricultural College Indang, Cavite. Adviser: Dr. Simeon S. Crucido
The study was conducted in Silang and Indang, Cavite, from January to March 1997 with 75 farm respondents. It aimed to assess, identify, and describe the crop production practices, determine the cropping systems employed, identify the different agricultural crops that are planted together with pineapple, and identify the problems associated with farming in the area.
The production practices of farmers Like land preparation , planting of pineapple and other components crops, fertilizer application, weeding, control of pests and diseases, flower induction , harvesting , and ratooning varied in frequencies , methods used, and date of implementation in almost every farm from the two upland municipalities studied. Under the of multiple cropping systems ,intercropping, relay cropping and sequential cropping were practiced by farmers from the two study areas. The agricultural crops that are planted together with pineapple are fruit trees such as papaya and banana; root crops such as cassava and gabi and grains represented byupland rice and corn. Legumes such as peanut and sitao were also grown with pineapple depending on the adaptability and availability of planting materials in the area. It was common for a farm in the area to have standing coconut trees before planting pineapple and the other component crops.
The problems encountered by farmers include the high cost of farm inputs, strategic location of farm, poor roads , disposal of pineapple stumps , and weeds remained unsolved up to the present time
