This backyard hog fattening project was conducted at Cavite State University from December 14, 2018 to March 15, 2019. This project helped the student to obtain additional knowledge and developed skills in hog raising and obtain profit from the enterprise.
This backyard hog fattening project used three weanlings with an average initial weight of 14.6 kg. The weanlings were fed three times a day. Hog pre-starter pellet was fed at first 9 days of rearing, hog starter mash for 28 days, hog grower pellet for 39 days and hog finisher pellet for 16 days to marketing. Water was made available at all times. After 92 days of rearing, the hogs weighed an average of 96.3 kg, with an average gain in weight of 81.6 kg and average daily gain (ADG) of 887.7 g. The hogs consumed a total of 206.2 kg of feeds and attained an average feed efficiency (FCE) of 2.5.
The total sales of the project was P 36,615.00 and the total cost of production was P 30, 608.44. A total net income of P 6,006.56 was obtained with a return of investment (ROI) of 19.62%.
