This study investigated the occurrence of Malassezia species in scalp, arm and leg of intermediate pupils from public elementary schools in Naic, Cavite City and Noveleta.Skin scraped samples were cultured on modified Sabouraud Dextrose Agar with Olive Oil. to morpological, physiological characterizations. A Of 113 Malassezia isolate were obtained. These were identified as M. furfur, M. pachydermatis and M. sympodialis. M. furfur and M. pachydermatis were found on sclap while M sympodialisis was frequently observed on arm. More female pupils harbored Malassezia sp. Than the female.
Age, skin infection and medical history were significantly related to the occurrence of Malassezia.
