The research study was conducted at the authors’ residence in Indang, Cavite from July to December 1999. This aimed to evaluate the efficacy of poinsettia extract against insect pest of sitao and to determine the concentration of extract which can adversely affect the insect pests.

A portion of the Experimental field of the CvSu Experimental Station was planted with sitao to serve as a source of insect pests. The aphids were subjected to laboratory test by placing 10 aphids in each petri dish per treatment and were subjected to five (5) treatments replicated 3 times. A Randomized Complete Block Design was used in the study.

The treatment used were To-control (acetone), Ti- (10 ml! extract + 10 ml water), T2- (20 ml extract + 10 ml water0, T3- (30 ml extract + 10 ml water) and T4- (pure extract).

The results showed that T4 (pure extract) and T3 (30 ml extract +10 ml water) were the best concentrations of extract for killing aphids although T2 could also kill the aphids. It also showed that 20-24 hours have the highest effectivity in controlling the aphids. The descending order of effectiveness are as follows: T4 (pure extract)> T3 (3 :1) > T2 (2:1) > Ti (1:1). The poinsettia extract proved to have insecticidal effect against the aphids of the sitao.
