The study aimed to determine the Human Immunodeficiency Virus/ Acquired Immune Deficieny Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) awareness and risk behaviors about HIV/AIDS among Grade 7 students in selected schools in three cities of Cavite. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the demographic profile of the Grade 7 students in selected towns of Cavite in terms of age, sex, civil status, religion, monthly family income, type of school affiliated and weekly allowance. This also sought to determine the significant relationship between the demographic profile of the participants and their awareness about HIV/AIDS and determine the relationship between the demographic profile of the participants and their HIV/AIDS risk behavior. Difference among the awareness of Grade 7 students and their risk behaviors between the public and private high school was also determined.

The study used the descriptive method to describe the characteristics of the variables and determine the relationship among them. The participants are 300 Grade 7 students from the public and private schools in Dasmarinas, Imus and Bacoor, which were the cities in Cavite with the highest incidence of HIV/AIDS. The participants were chosen using purposive and convenient quota sampling. The data gathering procedure was undertaken during November 2012 to March 2014. All the data were subjected to treatment, which were percentage distribution, Pearson r correlation, chi-square method and ANOVAs f-test.

Most of the participants aged 13 years old and majority were male. All of the participants are single and mostly has a religion of Roman Catholic. P15, 001-20,000 was the highest percentage of monthly family income. Fifty percent (50%) of the participants were from private schools and the other half were from public school. Most of the participants had P401-P500 weekly allowance. As for the HIV/AIDS risk behavior, based on their sexual activity, the highest percentage (72%) of the participants are able to talk with their friends about sexuality. In sexual practices, having a close relationship with the opposite sex, in terms of the blood transfer, sharing personal hygiene kit has the highest percentage. The participants had a highest percentage on consultation for HIV/STI screening test.

The awareness of the participants on HIV/AIDS scored average on some information, and few misconceptions were present. The sexual activity, age and sex had significant relationship to the risk behaviors of the participants. The sexual practices, monthly family income and type of school, has significant relationship to risk behaviors of the participants. On the other hand, blood transfer from an infected person, age, monthly family income, home and school had a significant relationship with the risk behaviors. However, on the HIV/STI screening test, no variable was significant. On the demographic profile to the awareness of the participants, only the monthly family income, allowance and type of school had a significant relationship between the awareness of the participants.
