Abstract: IBONG, JHOVIE LOUSE R & TAMO, CECILYN JOY A. Awareness to TB DOTS Commercials and the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Selected Residents of Dasmarinas, Cavite Towards Tuberculosis. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Cavite State University — Main Campus, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Lady Aileen A. Orsal. The study was conducted to determine the awareness to TB DOTS commercials of the residents of Dasmarinas, Cavite and the knowledge, attitude and practice towards tuberculosis, and the relationship between these variables. Dasmarinas City's residents were chosen since the city ranks as the first among cities with most number of TB patients. Due to confidentiality of the TB DOTS patients' record from the municipal health office, the researchers limited their study to three (3) barangays with the most number of population in Dasmarinas (DBB), specifically Brgy. Victoria Reyes, Sampaloc IV and Burol I in Dasmarinas Bagong Bayan (Dasmarinas Resettlement Area). The research was then conducted from August 2016 to March 2017. The theoretical framework of this study is the Social Judgment Theory (SJT), which seeks to explain how people make judgments about the messages they receive. The methodology used in this study is descriptive correlational. Descriptive research generally precedes explanatory research and correlational research statistically measure a relationship between two or more variables which gives an indication of how one variable may predict another. A survey was used as a source of primary data. The survey was conducted among 155 selected residents of Dasmarinas, Cavite. After conducting the survey, the results have determined that most of the participants were moderately aware to TB DOTS Commercials. The results also indicated that most of the participants were moderately knowledgeable about tuberculosis, most of them had favorable attitude towards tuberculosis and their practice towards tuberculosis obtained the "highly practiced" category which signifies that they are practicing positively when it comes to tuberculosis. Moreover, the study also found out that there was no significant relationship between their awareness to TB DOTS commercials and their knowledge about tuberculosis, which means that their awareness to TB DOTS commercials do not relate to the knowledge they have about tuberculosis. The relationship between their knowledge and attitude towards tuberculosis resulted as highly significant which implies that the higher the level of knowledge of the participants is, the more positive is their attitude towards tuberculosis. Lastly, the relationship between their attitude and practice towards tuberculosis also resulted as highly significant which implies that that the more favorable the level of attitude of the participants is, the more positive is their practice towards tuberculosis. With these findings, this study recommends that the Department of Health should continue releasing TB DOTS commercials for them to be able to disseminate information about the cure and information about tuberculosis. This study also recommends that TB DOTS commercials should also use other forms of media, including social media. Department of Health should also aim to fight more the stigma against tuberculosis.
