LAGUINDAY, JOHN C. Depiction of Duterte’s War on Drugs in Erik Matti’s Film BuyBust. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Prof. Lisette D. Mendoza.
The study focused on the depiction of Duterte’s war on drugs in the film BuyBust. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the depiction of Duterte’s war on drugs in the film using the elements of Dramatistic Pentad of Kenneth Burke which are act, scene, agent, agency, and purpose.
The researcher used descriptive research design to interpret the film. In addition, the researcher also used thematic table to present the analyses. The thematic table consists of three columns for the categories namely: elements of dramatistic pentad, scene number on the film BuyBust, and Duterte’s war on drugs and five rows for each element of dramatistic pentad.
In the analysis of the film using the elements of dramatistic pentad, it showed that some acts of the film depicted Duterte’s war on drugs. The scene in the film also based on the drug war. All of the agents of the film represent a figure on the drug war while their method of acting and their tools during these acts also showed a resemblance of the drug war. Lastly, some purposes of the scenes of the film depicted the drug war.
