Abstract: BAYAS, MARK RHEYNEL B., CELORICO JOHN MARTIN P., PARIAN PATRICIA PEARL C. Effectiveness of homemade bio-pesticide produced from pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) extract on the control of american cockroaches (Periplaneta americana L.) Blattodea: Blattidae. Research Study. (General Science Curriculum). Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Dr. Evelyn O. Singson This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the homemade bio- pesticide produced from pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius L.) extract on the control of American cockroaches (Periplaneta americana) Blattodea: Blattidae. Mature pandan leaves bought from a local farm of pandan were extracted by pounding the pandan leaves thoroughly. Second to third instar nymphs of American cockroaches were used as test insects. The study was conducted at College of Arts and Sciences, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Based on the results of the study, higher concentration of pandan bio-pesticide extract produced higher effectiveness in controlling American cockroaches, having the treatment with 100 percent extract as the most effective in terms of lethal activity. There was significant difference among the pandan bio-pesticides in terms of their odor. Regardless of the extract concentration, all of the pandan bio-pesticide exhibited no rate of persistence, thus, showing a high rate of biodegradability. The efficacy the pandan bio- pesticide produced is greatly incomparable as to of the commercial insecticide. In terms of cost of expenses, the pandan bio-pesticide is more recommendable than the commercial insecticide.
