Abstract: MARGES, ROCHELLE L., Applied Research IV, Laboratory School, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, CaVite, April,1995. “GROWTH RESPONSE OF NOSTOC AS AFFECTED BY DIFFERENT LIQUID MEDIA”. Adviser: Mrs. Elma Alcantara This study entitled “GROWTH RESPONSE OF NOSTOC AS AFFECTED BY DIFFERENT LIQUID MEDIA” was conducted in Daine, Indang, Cavite from July 18, 1994 to August 21, 1994 to find out if Nostoc will grow and survive in different liquid media and to know the growth response of Nostoc to different alternative liquid media. This also aimed to know the best alternative liquid medium for the growth of Nostoc. Twelve (12) reagent bottles inoculated with 75 ml. of Nostoc strain (Ns 40 Sn) were distributed in a Cmplete Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications and four treatments. The following treatments were used in the study; Tl-control, T2-ammonium phosphates, T3-Horse manure, T4-chicken manure. Results showed that Nostoc strain can grow, survive, and reproduce when inoculated to different manures plus ammonium phosphates with 16-20-0 nutrient content. T1-control was the best treatment. This is because the liquid medium used contains all the nutrients necessary for the growth of Nostoc. Treatment 2-ammonium phosphates, Treatment 4-chicken manure and Treatment 3-horse manure followed respectively with a very little difference in their yields.
