Abstract: JOYA, RANDY IGOS and PELLOS, ERIC HERRERA. "Design of a PC- Based Shading System for Greenhouses". Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2001. Adviser: Ms. Marivic C. Gatan. The study aimed to design a PC-Based Shading System, driven by a motor for shading different types of crops that are sensitive to the radiation coming from the sun depending on the temperature gathered by the sensor within the greenhouse. The hardware part of the system was divided into two parts: the interfacing unit and the switching unit together with the shading machine. The interface card served as the output port, which gave the signals to the switching unit. The function of the switching unit was to gather the data specifically, the temperature within the greenhouse which served as the input that triggered the machine to rotate into different angles. From then, the blinds shaded the plants to protect them from the harmful rays of the sun. The language used to create the software was Visual Basic 5.0. The software provided different kind of plants, which mere chosen to apply to such greenhouse. It also presented the data or facts about the chosen plant, its picture, and its maximum and minimum degree temperature certain plant could take. The result revealed that automated shading system were more reliable and very effective in terms of shading process which played an important role in managing a greenhouse.
