Abstract: CUSI, ARISTOTLE R. and JENNIFER D. DE TORRES. Content Analysis of Selected Novelty Songs of Lito Camo. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication major in Journalism. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2005. Adviser: Mrs. Raquel D. Domingo. Five selected novelty songs composed by Lito Camo were analyzed in this study. Quantitative and qualitative approaches were utilized to analyze these songs. The study used five novelty songs composed by Filipino singer-songwriter Lito Camo. These novelty songs are entitled as follows: Bulaklak, Jumbo Hotdog, Otso Otso, Sasakyan Kita and Spageti. The researchers used the Thematic Table to show the songs' lyrical content and analysis, which were divided, into two categories: denotative and connotative meaning. The songs were also analyzed if they contain double meaning and the degree of double meaning in each song. Results of the study revealed that: the lyrics of the five selected novelty songs composed by Lito Camo have connotative meanings or malicious implications with sexual overtones discernable to audience/listeners; the lyrics of the five selected novelty songs composed by Lito Camo contained double meaning; the degree of which ranged from high to extremely high degree; and in general, the novelty songs composed by Lito Camo are full of double meanings which contain sexual overtones depicting the songs to be malicious and/or with malicious intent. After careful analysis of the songs under study and based on the conclusions mentioned above, the following recommendations were made: songwriters should be responsible when writing songs aimed for nationwide distribution especially when selective audience marketing/airing is not possible; careful assessment of the positive and negative consequences of the song should also be given consideration before writing a particularly offensive idea into song or airing of a naughty song. Parents and socially oriented groups should be vigilant in safeguarding the characteristics Filipinos are known for. Lastly public officials, policy makers and officers of concerned regulatory boards should make definite laws regarding materials that may be offensive to the audience/listeners.
