Abstract: BATUGAN, ANABETH A. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2001. "Evaluation of Non-Conventional Barriers to Anthurium Snails (Macroceras spectabilis Pfeiffer)". Adviser: Dr. Evelyn Oquias-Singson. Two sets of experiments were conducted to evaluate non-conventional barriers to anthurium snails. Results were subjected to Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The study was conducted at the Research Laboratory of the Department of Crop Protection, and at Benguet State University, La Trinidad, Benguet from June - September 2000. Among the six non-conventional barriers, slaked lime was the most effective barrier to anthurium snails. Salt was the second most effective. Talc, agricultural lime, wood ash and pound eggshell were less effective as barriers. The snails that had come in contact with slaked lime released yellowish bubbles, went inside their shell, and afterwards died. Of the four dosages of slaked lime barrier, treatment 1 (5.0g of slaked lime) was the most effective dosage against anthurium snails. Treatment 2 (2.5g of slaked lime), treatment 3 (1.5g of slaked lime) and treatment 4 (1.0g of slaked lime) were less effective. Results of the study indicate that slaked lime could serve as barrier to anthurium snails.
