Abstract: ACHIAA KUSI ABIGAIL, NDEDE CHRISTIAN, NIMAKO ACHEAMPONG KOFI & OWIREDU ASIEDU MICHAEL. Antifungal Activity of Euphorbia hirta Linn against Selected Pathogens. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2016. Adviser: Dr. Adelaida E. Sangalang. The study was conducted at the Medical Technology Department laboratory, Cavite State University, Indang, main campus from July to October 2016. The general objective was to determine the antifungal property of Euphorbia hirta Linn against some selected pathogens. The study specifically aimed to determine which part of Euphorbia hirta plant extract has the most antifungal property; determine which pathogen is most susceptible to Euphorbia plant extract; and to determine if the Euphorbia hirta plant extract is comparable with the commercially available drug. The antifungal effect of Euphorbia hirta Linn ethanolic, hexane and aqueous shoot and root extract on the growth of Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium spp. were evaluated by measuring the zone of inhibition after 48 hours of incubation of organisms using disk diffusion method.hir hurt Linn ethanolic shoot extract contained antifungal property that inhibited the growth Of Aspergillus flavus. This extract is known to contain flavonoids, polyphenols, tannin, and triterpene and phytosterols as its active component that makes it susceptible to Aspergillus flavus. Except in the commercial fungicide, Penicillium spp. exhibited resistance in all Euphorbia hir [a Linn the plant extracts used in the study.
