Abstract: Babaan, Roberto Morena, Don Severino Agricultural College, April 1980. "Rice Mills and Cost of Milling Palay in Selected Towns of Cavite." Adviser: Mrs. Carolina S. Saga. This study was conducted using the multi-stage sampling to: 1) know their milling operations; 2) know the different types of rice mills used in five selected towns of Cavite, namely: Indang, Kawit, Mendez, Naic and Tanza; 3) determine the cost of milling palay; 4) determine the comparative efficiency of the different types of rice mills and factors that affect differences in their rice milling efficiency; and 5) determine the various problems encountered by rice millers in their milling operations. Seven millers from kiskisan type and 11 millers from cono type of rice mill were interviewed. The age of millers of both types ranged from 48-69 years. Cono millers were older than kiskisan rice millers. Most of the millers of cono type were degree holders while none in the kiskisan type. Kiskisan rice millers had longer years of experience than cono rice millers. The net income per annum of cono rice millers was very much bigger than kiskisan millers. The capital investment, number of cavans milled per 12 hours and milling recovery of cone type of rice This was mill was very much greater than the kiskisan. proven with the use of T-test. In terms of milling cost per cavan, they did not differ significantly as per result of of t-test. The major problem reported by rice millers of kiskisan type was the insufficient amount of palay to mill while that of cono type was competition among other cone rice millers
