Abstract: GALLENITO, MARY JOY S. Identification of Bivalve Species in Selected Coastal Areas of Naic, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Biology, Major in General Biology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Adviser: Dr. Josefina R. Rint. This study was conducted to identify different kinds of bivalves in selected coastal areas of Naic, Cavite; collect and characterize the bivalves; asses the relative frequency of the bivalves; and determine the morphometrics of the identified bivalve species in selected coastal areas of Naic, Cavite from August 2012 and November 2012. Three species of bivalves were found in Brgy. Bancaan, Brgy. Bagong Kalsada and Bygy. Bucana namely: Gafrarium dispar, Perna viridis and Donax cuneatus. A 10 x 10 meter quadrat was laid out 5 m away from the shores. Different bivalve species were collected in each quadrat and were identified based on their morphological characteristics. The data revealed that more bivalves were recorded in Brgy. Bancaan (33), followed by Brgy. Bagong Kalsada (27) and the least in Brgy. Bucana (13). Moreover, the bivalves were more plentiful in August than in November. Paired T-test was used to statistically analyze the differences of bivalve abundance in terms of monthly collection and tide situation. Bivalve counts were found to be significantly different at high tides between the August and November collections. However, the counts of bivalves were not significantly affected by the tidal situation.
