Intensity of Extension Contact and TInnovativeness of Multiple Cropping Farmers in four Upland Towns of Cavite, Philippines. Major Professor: Dr. Obdulia F. Sison The study was conducted to determine the relationship between the intensity of extension contact and innovativeness of multiple cropping farmers {(MCFs) in four upland towns of Cavite. Personal interviews were conducted to gather the data from 35 Agricultural Production Technologists (APTs) and 184 Multiple cropping farmers (MCFs). Frequency count, percentage, mean and range were used to describe the general characteristics of the respondents and to Summarise the data. The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and the stepwise regression analysis were used to determine the linear relationships and the degree of contributions of the predictor variables to the dependent variable, respectively. Gne CF had no extension contact of any form. Fifty four percent of the farmers had high intensity of extension contact while only 47 Percent had high extent of innovativeness, The extent of job perfor@ance of APTs was linearly related with the distance of their residence from their area (barangay) of assignment, attitude towards their immediate Supervisors, and attitude towards their clientele, The first two characteristics explained 50 percent of the variations in their job performance: the correlation was relatively strong (NR 0.7%), The MCFs' education} attainment, membership in associations, experience in farming and level of living were linearly associated with their intensity of extension contact, However, only the first two of the mentioned characteristics were confirmed to account for 28 percent in the variations in their intensity of extension contact. The correlation was moderate (HR = 0,53), &s regards HOFs’ characteristics and their innovativeness, only the level of living was found to have caused 2 percent of the variations in their innovativeness and the correlation was relatively low with a correlation coefficient of 6.15, Correlation analysis further showed that there exists positive relationships between intensity of extension contact and knowledge level; between knowledge level and direction of attitude; and between knowledge -level and level of practice; and between the direction of attitude and level of practice of the recommended preventive/control measures of PRV. il of the above relationships were significant at one percent level (P(G.@1). The combined effects of the extent of job performance of APTs, intensity of extension contact, and level of living of the NCFs explained 8 percent of the total variations in their innovativeness. The extension teaching methodologies most frequently preferred by NEFS were farm and home visit, leaflet, television, general meeting, and seminar/short course. These same methodologies were frequently utilized by the APTs in the dissemination of agricultural information to their clientele.

The study was conducted to determine the relationship between the intensity of extension contact and innovativeness of multiple cropping farmers {(MCFs) in four upland towns of Cavite.

Fifty four percent of the farmers had high intensity of extension contact while only 47 Percent had high extent of innovativeness,

The extent of job perfor@ance of APTs was linearly related with the distance of their residence from their area (barangay) of assignment, attitude towards their immediate Supervisors, and attitude towards their clientele, The first two characteristics explained 50 percent of the variations in their job performance: the correlation was relatively strong (NR 0.7%),

The MCFs' education} attainment, membership in associations, experience in farming and level of living were linearly associated with their intensity of extension contact, However, only the first two of the mentioned characteristics were confirmed to account for 28 percent in the variations in their intensity of extension contact. The correlation was moderate (HR = 0,53), &s regards HOFs’ characteristics and their innovativeness, only the level of living was found to have caused 2 percent of the variations in their innovativeness and the correlation was relatively low with a correlation coefficient of 6.15,

Correlation analysis further showed that there exists positive relationships between intensity of extension contact and knowledge level; between knowledge level and direction of attitude; and between knowledge -level and level of practice; and between the direction of attitude and level of practice of the recommended preventive/control measures of PRV. il of the above relationships were significant at one percent level (P(G.@1).
