Abstract: ROCELA, TERESITA ARELLANO, BLUE DIAMOND FEED MILLS, INC. (BDFMI) Undergraduate Case Study, Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1991. Adviser: Mr. Florindo C. Ilagan. A three-month field study was conducted in the Blue Diamond Feed Mills, Incorporated (BDFMI), a feed- mill enterprise at Barangay D, Rosario, Batangas. Its primary purpose was to enable the student to apply her knowledge and skills gained in Agribusiness into actual experiences in the field. Specifically, the study aimed to present and analyze the performance of the company, identify critical problems, and formulate viable solutions to the problems. The study focused on the different functions of management such as organization, production, marketing, and finance. Collection of data was done by observation and actual participation in the firm's activities, and interviews with some key personnels and other employees. Secondary data were gathered from the firm's records and other relevant books. After a careful analysis, it was found out that the company is facing various problems in its different management aspects. Overlapping of authorities and duties, poor decision-making process and disunited command brought about by its tall organizational structure are problems in management. An increase in transportation costs during the analysis of ingredients and finished products and the inadequacy of warehouse are the main constraints in the production aspect. To top the market, stiff competition is the hindrance. As an appropriate action, the author recommends that the organizational structure should be reset in a way that it will show a clear definition of job responsibilities and duties, intra and inter-departmental relationships and limitations of each personnel. Each should be given a written copy of the revised set-up to minimize problems if not totally avoided. The company should also expand its current warehouse to accommodate a larger volume of raw materials. Feasibility study of putting up its own laboratory is also recommended to determine if it is cheaper in the long run. As far as stiff competition is concerned, BDFMI should mobilize the recruitment of dealers and the contract growing scheme.
