Abstract: CLIMACOSA, FATIMA BUSTAMANTE; MORAL, JAYMAR ORTILANO; JARIN, CHERRY ANN APOLINARIO AND ROJO, NEILCKER PELIS1A. Cultural Interpretation of the Sanghiyang Ritual in Alfonso, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, major in Journalism, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2007. Adviser: Ms. Bettina Joyce Ilagan. This study aimed to provide a cultural interpretation of Sanghiyang ritual - the Filipino adaptation of fire walking and fire dancing in Alfonso. There have been existing studies regarding Sanghiyang but their findings were very limited. More people want to conduct a deeper study of this exclusive culture. The researchers covered a wider study about the description, cultural interpretation, performers, needed materials and procedures in Sanghiyang, before, during and after the ritual. The researchers participated in the performance of Sanghiyang with its true dancers, filmed the whole procedure, observed, analyzed and produced a video documentation to show how this Sanghiyang ritual is being performed - from the preparation, actual ritual and post activities. They also conducted interviews with people (Sanghiyang dancers, Sanghiyang audience, and their relatives) who have fanatical knowledge and comprehension with Sanghiyang to acquire its cultural interpretation and needed pieces of information that would supplement this study.
