Abstract: DIÑO, REGINALD B., LUMBRERAS, KWEENZIE S., VALLANO, DANICA MARIELLE P. Ang tatay kong nanay: The Lived Experiences of Single Fathers in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University. May 2017. Thesis Adviser: John Christian Paolo M. Belen, RPm This study sought to know the lived experiences of single fathers in Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to: know how single fathers view their experiences as a solo parent; to determine the meaning of performing motherly tasks for them; to know how they view their challenges they encountered and experiences; how they raise their child/children; and to determine their aspirations. The study made used of Phenomenological research design involving nine single fathers who reside in urban areas of Cavite, whose age ranges from twenty-five to forty-years old who has the custody of their child/children during its formative years, some of the single fathers may have a male child and some may have female child. The data had undergone Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis and came up with six superordinate themes and twelve subthemes. First, single fathers viewed their experiences as challenging in their situation through all the changes in their lives in becoming a responsible and purposeful father and in looking for a stable job. Second, single fathers gave meaning in performing motherly tasks as a hands on parent who will do all the responsibilities of being a mother and a father, and by learning tasks by themselves. Third, they viewed the challenges they encountered and experienced as a way of persevering in overcoming all of their problems. Fourth, they are responsible fathers in raising their child/children. Lastly, they aspire for the betterment of their child in the future. They are already contented to see their child in a good condition. They also aspire for themselves to have better perspective in life and a new partner in life.
