Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Prepared under the supervision of Engr. Gerry M. Castillo. The study aimed to determine the risk management, safety, and health practices of the selected funeral homes in Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the business profile, demographic profile of the employees, risk management and safety and health practices followed, risk management and safety and health problems encountered, compliance to the standards set by PD856 Chapter XXI sections 93-94 and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and provide corrective actions for the occurring problems in selected funeral homes in Cavite. The study has a total of thirty-three (33) respondents, and the gathered data have undergone descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, and average for the analysis of data. The business' categories of the firm are mostly from Category 1 and the respondents mostly came from age group 41-50. Most of the respondents are male. Most of the funeral homes or mortuaries have high to very high compliance to the standards set by PD856 Chapter XXI sections 93-94 while some of the funeral homes or mortuaries have moderate to very low compliance in terms of standards set by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). In addition, most of the problems occurring in the funeral homes are the waste disposal specifically the blood disposal and hazardous wastes disposal, unavailability of respirators, weak building foundation of the embalming and dressing rooms, inadequate embalming and dressing space, non-standard embalming table, no training in safe lifting techniques, no proper communication with hospitals and police departments, no documentation of work and handling instructions, no Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) acquired for hazardous materials, inadequate ventilation in embalming rooms, unawareness of acceptable levels of formaldehyde, no implementation of proper lifting practices, unawareness of staff about potential chemical hazards, and unawareness of formaldehyde maximum exposure level. | |
