520 3 _aHERNANDEZ, ALFIE D. and NOVERO, ROWENA A. Development, Construction, and Evaluation of Microcontroller Unit for Honey Extractor. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2005. Adviser: Ms. Florence B. Marero. The Development, Construction, and Development of Microcontroller Unit for Honey Extractor was done at Silang, Cavite. The general objectives of the study were to design, develop, and construct a functional microcontroller unit for the honey extractor. The honey extractor is composed of the following parts: extractor still, revolving reel, power source, and the control unit. It was evaluated based on its extracting capacity and extracting efficiency. The honey extractor can finish extracting honey from eight honey frames simultaneously. The process of extraction is time-based and the user can select which speed he wants to use. The choices were 230 rpm, 160 rpm, or 130 rpm. The speed of the extraction process is dependent on the time selected by the user, 4 minutes being the fastest and 10 minutes being the slowest. Results showed that using the micro-controlled honey extractor is much more efficient and time saving than manually operated honey extractor. In the development of the software, C++ was used since' the microcontroller can operate using this low-level language. The software was developed to control. The operation of the machine, capable of instructing the whole system such as displaying the operation on the LCD and instructing the revolving reel to start or stop revolving. The project was presented to the proponents' design project adviser and technical critic during the preliminary evaluation conducted on February 17, 2005 at the Apiary. It was done by showing the adviser and critic how the honey extractor works. The final evaluation took place at the same place on February 28, 2005. The whole system underwent a series of testing to ensure accuracy and effectiveness. The project was examined and found satisfactory. The performance of the whole system was favorable on the proponents' objectives. The microcontroller accurately regulated the operation of the honey extractor. The statistical analysis of the system showed that the automated honey extractor had a distinctive advantage over the manually operated honey extractor.
