520 | 3 | _aThe study was conducted from August 2018 to May 2019 in Metro Manila and in Cavite State University- Main Campus, Indang, Cavite. The general objective of the study was to document and analyze the repurposed heritage buildings in Metro Manila. Specifically, it aimed to: 1. determine the heritage buildings in Metro Manila that have been repurposed and transformed successfully through the practice of adaptive reuse; 2. identify the architect/head of construction of the adaptive reused buildings before and after they have been repurposed; 3. determine the previous and present purposes of the adaptive reused heritage buildings; 4. determine the common reasons why the owners or the government of the heritage buildings tend to repurpose them; 5. identify the different architectural character, styles, elements and techniques that were used to design these buildings before and after they have been repurposed; and 6. identify the physical changes done after the buildings were repurposed. this study, through the promotion of adaptive reuse, contributed to the heritage awareness and conservation of the country through the documented transformation of the old buildings. The researchers used descriptive type of research method to document and analyzed the buildings that were covered in the profiling. In gathering the data and information needed, the researchers used literature search and on-site investigations through 1. observational search; 2. personal interviews and consultations; 3. documentation and 4. photo documentation. Personal interviews and consultations were conducted with the government officials, heritage concerned officers and other related personnel from the different cities and municipality of Metro, Manila. Based on the investigation, there are growing in the built heritage of Metro Manila. These involves their demolition, abandonment and condemnation. Despite the intensifying issues involving the destruction of heritage buildings, there is repurposing or adaptive reuse to solve them. With this the richness of the built heritage in Metro Manila can still be saved and the vibrancy of its heritage architecture can be revived. Repurposing is very challenging as much as heritage conservation is nowadays. Transforming buildings for the better and making it more efficient that it was before is a also difficult. But through the cooperation, effort and willingness of citizens, building owners, heritage advocates and conservationist and the government, it can be made possible and successful. | |
