Psychological Well-being and Social Engagement of Caregivers Attending to Elderly with Dementia at Mama's Hope Haven of Norway in General Trias, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State Univeristy, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Jezreel C. Del Espiritu Santo. The research was conducted on October 2018 until March 2019 and took place at Mama's Hope Haven of Norway located in Navarro, General Trias, Cavite, to explore the psychological well-being and social engagement of caregivers of elderly with dementia. This study intended to determine, reveal and understand the psychological well-being and social engagement of caregivers attending to elderly with dementia at Mama's Hope Haven of Norway in General Trias. A type of descriptive design, specifically multiple case study was utilized for this. The participants were purposely chosen to be caregivers that work at Mama's Hope Haven of Norway in General Trias, Cavite and have at least four years of caregiving experience. The researchers used both structured and unstructured approach for the study. They used Ryff s Scale of Psychological Well-being (RSPWB) and Brief Assessment of Social Engagement (BASE) by Morgan to gather data. The researchers had found that the participants felt satisfied, fulfilled, acknowledged and appreciated as caregivers. Their experiences in caregiving and advises from people around them, like co-workers and elderly, had taught and made them realize about their purpose in life. Results from Ryff s Scale of Psychological Well-being (RSPWB) revealed that caregivers had positive psychological well-being, while results from Brief Assessment of Social Engagement (BASE) exhibited the caregivers' positive social engagement towards their family, friends and co-workers. Based on the corroborated data from interview and scales, the researchers concluded that caregiving is both challenging and rewarding. Caregivers feel fulfilled and gained purpose of life from this job. They also overcome hardships, like stress and fatigue, with the help of their family, friends and co-workers. The researchers made several recommendations for future researchers and the field of psychology. First is to conduct the same study about caregivers who attends to elderly with dementia, but they must focus on male caregivers since this study just had female participants. Another recommendation is to focus this same research on newly hired caregivers. Lastly, for the field of psychology, the researchers suggest that there should be more studies about psychological well-being to further understand the said concept.
