Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2019. Adviser: Dr. Marlon Mojica This study was conducted to determine the effects of oil price volatility on the Philippine automobile industry. The objective of this study is to determine the performance of the Philippine automobile industry; determine the historical behavior of oil price in the Philippines from 2001- 2017; determine if the price of oil in the Philippines show volatility clustering; and determine if there is a significant relationship between oil price volatility and the sales of automobile in the Philippines. The researchers used secondary data from 2001 to 2017 gathered from the Department of Energy, Board of Investment and Chamber of Automotive Manufactures of the Philippines, Inc. The study used Ordinary Least Squares to analyze the relationship between the automobile sales and the oil price. Further, ARCH and GARCH were used to estimate the volatility of the oil price. The automobile was categorized as passenger car, light commercial vehicle, and commercial vehicle. Results showed that oil price in Philippines showed volatility clustering. There was a negative. relationship between the price of diesel and the automobile sales and positive relationship between the price of gasoline and the automobile sales.
