Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Engr. Willie C. Buclatin. Vulcanizing shops are establishments that repair automobiles. Repairing automobiles is done by tire technicians. Tire technicians was one of the six occupations that suffered worst of Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) injuries. Various problems are faced in the existing equipment used in vulcanizing and these are difficulties in using equipment, injuries from equipment, body pain, repetition of work, shifting of workstations, faulty patching, and damaged rim. To address these problems, the study aimed to design and develop an ergonomically designed multi-functional tire vulcanizing machine. A developmental research design was used in the study. There are a total of 276 registered vulcanizing shops in the province of Cavite. The researchers used DMADV research method on the development of the prototype. To determine the total number of participants in the study, the researchers used the Slovin’s formula which resulted in 164 respondents. In using cluster sampling the researchers focused on four municipalities of Cavite which are Dasmariñas, General Trias, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), and Imus. The researchers used a preliminary questionnaire to gather data from the tire technicians of vulcanizing shops. The data gathered from the questionnaire was used to identify the common problems experienced by the tire technicians, and the problems was analyzed to formulate technical requirements and customer requirements that was used to design the prototype of the tire vulcanizing machine. After the evaluation of the prototype, the research showed that the development of the multi-functional machine lessen the shifting of workstations of the tire technicians, lessen the pain of the musculoskeletal disorders experienced, saved space in the workplace, and tire technicians perform their works comfortably and conveniently. The users rated excellent satisfaction for the functionality, aesthetics, durability, operability, and usefulness of the prototype. Safety was rated as satisfactory due to the sharp edges present in the prototype.
