JR., MONTON, GEAN JOHN LAWRENCE L., PLAMVIRGIN, JOEVIE P., Factors Affecting the Academic Performance of Student Athletes in City College of Tagaytay 2021-2022 Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science major in Sports Coaching. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2022. Adviser: Mr. Jeffrey P. Romera. This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the academic performance of student athletes in City College of Tagaytay A.Y. 2021-2022. Specifically, the study aimed to: (1) determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of: age, sex, year level, and sports; (2) determine what are the factors affecting the academic performance of student athletes in CCT for instance of: time schedule, family and financial; (3) determine the academic performance of the students- athletes in terms of: General Percentage Average (GPA). (4) to determine if there is a significant relationship between the GPA of students and factors affecting the academic performance of student-athlete; (5) determine if there is relationship difference between the factors affecting the academic performance of student athletes when they are grouped according to their demographic characteristics. The researchers used descriptive quantitative research design. A total of 45 student athletes were chosen through stratified sampling. Frequency was used for the number of respondents, mean was used to identify the average of the set of numerical values, as calculated by adding them together and dividing by the number of terms in the set and percentage as the total number of data that were be collected through survey. The survey forms contained simple questions. The questions were all about the factors affecting their academic performance. The age of student athletes who participated in the study ranged from 20 and above and 36 of them were males and nine were females. Most of the respondents were in their fourth year level who played athletics/track and field, badminton, basketball, chess, and volleyball. The result of the study showed that respondents were neutral in terms of time schedule with a general weighted mean of 3.09. Respondents agreed in terms of family with a general weighted mean of 3.49. Moreover, respondents agreed in terms of financial with a general weighted mean of 4.03. Respondents with the highest frequency were 17 with GPA of 1.76 - 2.00. Thus, there was no enough evidence to show that there is significant relationship between the GPA of student-athletes and factors affecting the academic performance of student-athlete. Also, there was no enough evidence to show that there is significant relationship between the GPA of student-athlete and factors affecting the academic performance of student-athlete in terms of time schedule, family and financial. There was no sufficient evidence to show that there is significant relationship between the factors affecting the academic performance of student athletes when they are grouped according to their sex. There was sufficient evidence to show that there is significant relationship between the factors affecting the academic performance of student athletes in terms of financial when they are grouped according to their year level.
