Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2022. Adviser: Engr. Dina P. Bawag. Lean is a thinking method that comes along with lean practice for generating needed value while using fewer resources and producing minimal waste, which entails continual experimentation to attain optimum value with zero waste [Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI), 2000]. As its application has expanded beyond its origin, it has reached the warehouse industry, an essential part of the logistic system where various types of waste can be found. In this paper, the researchers conducted a lean assessment and implementation in the warehouse operations All in One Merchandise Specialist (A.I.M.S.) Inc. The whole process was done along with the considerations and restrictions of the COVID-19 outbreak. The Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) method was utilized in the research process. It was found out in the define phase that mis-picks, waiting time, defects, inaccurate inventory, and delivery delays were the problems encountered by A.I.M.S Inc in their warehouse operations. Also, a present flow process was generated. Moreover, the determined problems were measured through Pareto analysis in the measure phase. The Pareto analysis resulted in the prioritization of mis-picks and waiting time in the problem-solving. In the analyze phase, Why-why analysis for each problem was constructed in which both derived into the same root causes - no proper labeling systems of items. The improve phase included the implementation of the proposed flow process as well as the 5S methodology. In the final part, which was the control phase, monitoring, and evaluation of the implemented changes through the use of a checklist were made. It leads to the conclusion that the assessment and implementation lean tools such as the 5S methodology along with the proposed flow process to address the problems of All-in-One Merchandise Specialist (A.I.M.S.) Inc. in their warehouse operations had brought changes, which resulted in a clean and neat warehouse, reduced warehouse operation cost, and improved the warehouse efficiency. | |
