Structural Design and Analysis of the Proposed Marine Biology Building in the Philippine Oceanography Research Laboratory (P.OR.L.) in San Andres, Bauan, Batangas. Undergraduate Capstone. Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Specializing in Structural Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Engr. Dheylvin Buenaventura. The Marine Biology Building is one of the major buildings proposed in the Philippine Oceanography Research Laboratory (P.O.R.L) in San Andres, Bauan, Batangas. With a total floor area of 31 ,597 m2 , the building features irregularities and asymmetries, as well as the use of smart glass and eco-bricks as substitute to normal concrete hollow blocks. To be serviceable, the structure requires proper design and analysis all the while keeping the aesthetics and cost in check. The study, entitled "Structural Design and Analysis of the Proposed Marine Biology Building in the Philippine Oceanography Research Laboratory (P.OR.L.) in San Andres, Bauan, Batangas", generally aimed to propose and create a structural design and analysis of the Marine Biology Building of the P.O.R.L. of the Orient. In line with this, the study also aimed to determine the magnitude of the forces in the structure when subjected to seismic loads, provide design and details of structural members, suitable electrical and plumbing plan design that would fit in the proposed architectural design, and a detailed cost estimate of the building. The proposed structural design and analysis will be beneficial not only to future researchers but also to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Marine Science Institute, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Modal Response Spectrum Analysis was utilized to analyze the whole structure and extract the design forces needed for the manual design. Ultimate design method was used to design the structural members with compliance to the design codes of NSCP 2015 The dynamic analysis result showed that the base shear was 38174.78 kN and 33339.29 kN at x and z-axis, respectively. The design and details, structural, electrical, and plumbing plans were created by the researchers, and estimated that the total cost of the building was PHP 1,307,681 ,317.45. In conclusion, it is possible to provide structural design and analysis of the Marine Biology Building of the P.O.R.L. of the Orient which was provided and created the researchers.
