Preparedness of Faculty Members on Online Teaching and Learning for the A.Y. 2020-2021 in Selected Satellite Campuses of Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Development Management Major in Rural Development Management. Cavite State University, Indang Campus. August 2022. Adviser: Ms. Sheryl S. Ersando. Online teaching and learning refers to education that takes place over the internet. Back then, it was sparsely used, mostly by business executives and a few post-secondary institutions only. But today, it became a cornerstone of education. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, educational institutions were temporarily shut down across the globe. In response to the situation, educational institutions were forced to shift to online education as an alternative to traditional face-to-face classes. But sudden transformation in the education system from traditional to online-based may cause several challenges including, faculty preparation. In fact, the preparedness of college and university faculty members in adapting to new learning methods is one of the biggest challenges seen as the school year starts amid the pandemic. The study was conducted on the first semester of Academic Year 2021 2022 to determine the preparedness of the faculty members on online teaching and learning in selected satellite campuses of Cavite State University. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1. describe the socio-demographic profile of the participants; 2. determine the extent of participant's knowledge in using Learning Management System (LMS); 3. determine the participant's attitude towards online teaching and learning; 4. measure the participant's self-efficacy for online teaching; and 5. solicit suggestions to improve the implementation of online/flexible learning in the University. The study used a descriptive research method. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the study used a survey questionnaire via Google Form as a mode of data gathering. The questionnaire was distributed to 121 faculty members from the four selected satellite campuses of Cavite State University, namely Trece Martires Campus, Tanza Campus, General Trias Campus, and Maragondon Campus. Majority of the participants' ages ranged from 26 to 30. Most were female, single, have a Master's Degree with units, and had been in the university for 1 to 3 years. Information Technology/Computer Science/lnformation Science/Library Science were the most common subjects dealt with. Almost everyone was able to attend training/seminars in preparation for an online class. Among various types of LMS, Google Meet and Google Classroom were the most popular and regularly utilized by the participants. The participants are knowledgeable in the use of a Learning Management System (LMS). The participant's attitude regarding online teaching and learning was positive. Participants considered online teaching and learning as a viable option for continuing education in the face of the pandemic. Participant's self-efficacy regarding online learning and teaching is high, they can effectively teach in an online setting. Suggestions from participants for improving the implementation of online/flexible learning in the university were (1) improvement of the tools used in online class, and (2) improvement of virtual classroom management and techniques. The researchers concluded that it is crucial to know the preparedness of faculty members on online teaching and learning as an institution will have the ability to identify the problems that need alteration and changes to adapt to the new way of education that will contribute to its success. Attending to the faculty members' plea and suggestion is recommended. | |
