Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Major in Animal Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2002. Adviser: Dr. Magdalena N. Alcantara. A survey on the of socio-economic characteristics and management practices of cattle raisers under coconut based farming system was conducted in three selected barangays of Pagsanjan, Laguna namely, Lambac, Dingin, Kalusiche. Majority of the raisers were male who can easily do the hard work. Most of them were elementary graduates, which shows that cattle raisers have low educational attainment. Most of the farmers had undetermined size of lands because most of them were tenants. They also grew lansones, dalanghita and rambutan. Horses were also being raised. Household labor was employed. Though cattle were expensive, these were in demand to local butchers/retailers and local traders/viajeros. Thus, these were easy to market. There were also no problems in availing credit. Farmers were affiliated to different organizations. Cross-bred cattle were the most common bred raised for fattening purposes around the vicinity. Cattle were tethered and given a combination of grass and shrubs. Natural breeding was employed and prices were based on the distance of the bull or semen source. Vaccination was practiced by almost all of the raisers. They acquired technical assistance from DA, UPLB and LGU that offer seminar, medication, vaccination and breeding services. | |
