Household Preparedness on Taal Volcano Eruption Among Residents Of Barangay Ayao-lyao, Lemery, Batangas. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. December 2022. Adviser: Mrs. Caridad C. Lintao, RN, MAN and Mrs. Karen Krista E. Cajilis, RMT, MSMT The study was conducted at Barangay Ayao-lyao, Lemery, Batangas from October 2020 to September 2021. It aimed to determine the level of household preparedness of the residents of Barangay Ayao-lyao, Lemery, Batangas in case of Taal Volcano eruption. Specifically, it aimed to: (I) determine the participant's demographic profile; their preferred source of information to become aware of possible volcanic eruption; their level of preparedness on Taal volcano eruption in terms of: (a) disaster risk, (b) early warning signs and (c) disaster emergency plans; (2) to determine the significant relationship between participant's level of preparedness and their preferred source of information to become aware for a possible Taal volcano eruption; determine the significant relationship between participant's profile and their preferred source of information to become aware for a possible Taal volcano eruption, determine the significant relationship between participant's profile and to their level of preparedness on Taal volcano eruption, and (5) determine the significant difference on the preparedness on the Taal volcano eruption when grouped according to participant's profile. The study utilized quantitative descriptive-correlational design which determined the significant relationship and difference of the participants to their level of household preparedness. Using Cochran sample size determination, 97 participants were needed for the study. There were 940 listed households in Barangay Ayao-lyao and the participants were filtered using an inclusion criterion which stated that the Participants agreed to voluntarily participate in the study, must be of legal age, residing in the barangay for at least one year, must be officially listed as a resident, and had experienced the volcanic eruption happened in January 2020. Survey questionnaire was sent to the participants through Google Forms. Based on the collected data, most of the respondents were found to be in ages between 25 to 34 years old and most of the respondents were female. Moreover, the majority of the respondents were college graduates, married, and living and staying for 21 to 30 years inside the research locale (Barangay Ayao-lyao, Lemery, Batangas). The main source of information of the participants regarding the volcanic activities and eruption came from their local barangay. Moreover, the findings showed that there was a significant relationship between the participants’ level of preparedness to their preferred source of information in times of volcanic eruption. There was a significant relationship between the participant's profile and their preferred source of information regarding a possible Taal Volcano eruption in terms of age. There was also a significant relationship between the participant's profile to the level of their preparedness regarding a possible Taal volcano eruption in terms of age, educational attainment, and length of stay. Lastly, there was a significant difference in preparedness according to participant's profile when grouped according to age, educational attainment, and length of stay in regards to the Taal volcano eruption. The researchers recommended utilizing another data gathering strategy such as house-to-house interview as the researchers were unable to use the said approach due to the constraints of COVID-19. A larger sample size was also recommended to gather a wider range of viewpoints from the residents who experienced the volcanic eruption firsthand. Local government unit's involvement in developing an effective information campaign on volcanic hazards preparedness and its sustainment was also suggested as this can lower the volcanic eruption casualties. The researchers also recommended that the role of schools and teachers in educating students about natural hazards should also be improved. Holding a seminar or awareness in preparing kits of emergency supplies for volcanic eruption disasters was also suggested while the government must ensure that protocols about warning information are clear and reliable. Required performance of volcano-related drills should also be encouraged among the residents, to practice warning communication and evacuation. Alternative housing for livestock should also be provided and placed near the human evacuation to encourage the residents not to reenter the hazard zones during an eruption. Lastly, dissemination of pamphlets to the residents containing the steps that should be done in order to mitigate volcanic eruptions and improve disaster risk management was also recommended as few participants were unable to prepare prior to a possible eruption due to a lack of information.
