520 3 _aMARALANG, ELSIE GARCIA. Training Needs Assessment of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries in Selected Towns of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Development Management major in Training Program Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2002. Adviser: Dr. Antonio G. Papa. The study was conducted in the municipalities of Naic and Indang, Cavite, to determine and assess the training and information needs of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs). Specifically, it aimed to: (1) determine the demographic characteristics of ARBs; (2) determine the perceived training needs of ARBs on subject matter and particular topics; (3) identify the training preferences of the ARBs as to the manner, method, sponsor, duration, location and season of the training; (4) identify the problems encountered by the ARBs in the implementation of the last two training programs in agrarian reform communities; and (5) propose a training design suited to the training needs of ARBs. The demographic characteristics of the respondents were analyzed using simple descriptive measures. Data collected were tabulated and measured using frequency count, percentage, mean, range and standard deviation. To present the degree of the need or the priority of the respondents for training on subject matter, particular topics and training preferences of ARBs, frequency count, percentage, rank based on weighted mean were used. Meanwhile, ranking was used to identify the problems encountered by ARBs. Most of the respondents (83 percent) were male and married (80 percent) with a mean age of 53 years and a standard deviation of 23.7. More than one-half (55 percent) of the respondents reached elementary level. The respondents' length of farming experience ranged from 1-75 years with a mean of 26 years and standard deviation of 23.71. On the average, the respondents had a family size of five. Forty-four percent of the respondents have expressed their willingness to undergo further training. The priority subject matters for training were farm practices, crop production, livestock production and small business enterprise. As to the manner and method of training, majority of the respondents preferred live-out training (72 percent) and a combination of lecture and demonstration (66 percent) in all subject matters. The respondents preferred government agencies and state colleges and universities (SUCs) to sponsor the training programs for them. Respondents opted to hold their training in the province of Cavite. The summer months were the preferred season for training with three-day duration. Most of the ARBs answered that time management and too fast presentations were the problems they encountered in attending training programs. Respondents really need additional knowledge and skills in the operation and management of their business. Thus, two training designs are proposed based on the needs of the ARBs. These are training design on poultry production and training design on vegetable production. The aim of the proposed training was to improve the knowledge and skills of ARBs in poultry and vegetable production.
