520 3 _aGABUTAN, KATHERINE E. Demographic Profile, Study Habits and Self-esteem of Selected Fourth Year High School Students of Indang National High School and Perpetual Cavite Institute. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2007. Adviser: Ms. Joy G. Novero. This research investigated the demographic profile, study habits and self-esteem of selected fourth year high school students of Indang National High School (INHS) and Perpetual Cavite Institute (PCI). Specifically, it aimed to assess the respondents' demographic profile such as age, gender, monthly income and occupation; to determine the level of their study habits and self-esteem; to assess the difference between the study habits and self-esteem of the two group of respondents and to assess the significant relationship between study habits and self-esteem. This research was conducted at Indang National High School and Perpetual Cavite Institute, Indang, Cavite in October 2006. The respondents were the fourth year high school students of the two schools. The researcher used Descriptive Correlational Design. There were 273 respondents in this study; 173 fourth year students from Indang National High School and 100 students from Perpetual Cavite Institute. Simple Random Sampling by means of fish bowl techniques was used to arrive at the number of respondents. The researcher used two instruments: Seo's (1991) Study Habit Questionnaire and Coppersmith's Self-esteem Inventory which was taken from Danday's (2006) study. The two instruments were adopted and modified for their applicability in the study. The results of this study revealed that most of the respondents were aged 15 years. There were more male than female respondents in Indang National High School. While in Perpetual Cavite Institute, most of the respondents were females. Most of the respondents from both schools had a family income of a Php10,000 and below. Regarding the occupation of their parents, most of them had unemployed mothers and their fathers were self-employed. This means that most of their parents do not have a stable job. It was found that the demographic profile of the respondents has no effect on their study habits but the monthly income and occupation of their mother has an effect on their self-esteem. Further results showed that there is a significant difference between the study habits and self-esteem of INHS and PCI. The INHS students have a higher level of study habits and self-esteem than those students in PCI. It was also revealed that study habits and self-esteem are not significantly related.
