520 3 _aMATILLA, NELKIE JANE E. , Applied Research IV (Agricultural Science Curriculum), Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang , Cavite,” Effects of Vernalization and Corm Size on the Growth and Flowering of Gladiola ( Gladiolus grandiflorus ) Adviser : Prof. Elma A. Alcantara The study "Effects of Vernalization and Corm Size on the Growth and Flowering of Gladiola ( Gladiolus grandiflorus was conducted to : (l) determine the effect of vernalization and corm size on the growth and flowering of gladiola; and (2) determine the best duration of vernalization and the best corm size on the growth and flowering of gladiola. An area of thirty (30) square meters was used in this study. Gladiola corms were placed under five (5) different treatment’s namely : To - control ( not vernalized ), TI (9 weeks of vernalization), T2 (10 weeks of vernalization), T3 (11 weeks of vernalization) and T4 (12 weeks of vernalization). They were also graded as to q -small size corms, Gr medium size corms and G3-1arge size corms with 1.3 to 2.4 cm, 2.5 to 3.6 cm, and 3.7 over 5 cm corm diameters respectively. Results showed that the average number of days from planting to germination gave a highly significant result. The average number of days from planting to flowering, average length of flower spikes and average number of flowers gave an insignificant result. Lastly, the average height of plants during termination gave a highly significant result for Factor B, significant result for Factor A, and insignificant result for the interaction effect between the two factors.
