The study was conducted mainly to assess the employability and marketability status of Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates of Cavite State University Indang, Cavite, A. Y. 2006-2010. Specifically, this research attempted to determine the following: 1) the demographic profile of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates of Cavite State University Indang, Cavite, A.Y 2006-2010; 2) the number of nursing graduate participants who are employed, underemployed and unemployed, 3) identify the specific jobs of the employed and underemployed graduate participants, 4) the specific area of specialization which has the highest number of employed graduate participants, 5) the identified factors that are associated with the employability status of the graduate participants; 6) the identified factors that are associated with the marketability status of the graduate participants; 7) if there is a significant relationship between the identified factors and the employability and marketability status of the Bachelor of Science in nursing graduates of Cavite State University Indang, Cavite, A. Y. 2006-2010. Majority (73.4%) of the graduate participants were employed. A little less than one fourth (21.2%) were underemployed and there were only five point four percent participants who were unemployed. And among the employed graduate participants, it was evident that majority (8.7%) of them were currently working as a ward nurse. Out of the 184 participants interviewed, 25.5 percent were employed in privately owned hospital/agency/company/corporation. However, there were several (4.3%)} participants who claimed that they were jobless and two (1.1%) were presently pursuing graduate studies. The identified factors that were analyzed for relationship with the employability status of nursing graduates were location of practice, condition of facilities, salary, management system, relationship to healthcare profession, state of health, board passer, and seminars and trainings. Moreover, the identified factors that were analyzed for relationship with the marketability status of nursing graduates were school graduated, degree (s) earned, high general weighted average, rank in class, recognition/awards received, first-taker of NLE, high PRC board rating, trained in target hospitals/community clinics/institution, with adequate duration of experience in hospital-based settings, good communication skills, with pleasing personality, and physically fit. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient showed that the factors such as work-related factors: relationship to profession, location of practice, and existing management system; and personal aspect factors: board passer, family approval, state of health, and seminars/trainings attended had a significant correlation with the employability status of nursing graduates. The study also revealed that all the identified factors: personal aspects, previous affiliations and curriculum vitae factors had a significant correlation with the marketability status of the graduate participants. | |
