Research Study. Science High School. College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Dr. Celso S. Crucido. This study was conducted from October 2013 to January 2014 in Alulod Indang, Cavite, to assess the effect of applying different substrates of wood vinegar on lettuce. Specifically, this study aims to 1. Determine the effects of different substrates of wood vinegar to the growth and yield of lettuce in terms of: a. number of leaves b. height of the plant and c. yield per treatment; and 2. determine which is the best substrate of wood vinegar for the growth and yield of lettuce. Field visits were done to monitor the growth and yield of lettuce. A weekly interval of spraying wood vinegar solution was done. There were four replications and treatments namely: rice hull, banana trunk, coconut husk, and controlled or only water. Each replication has four different treatments. The study used RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) in preparing the land. Samples were then taken from the four treatments in each replication 30 days after transplant to satisfy the following parameters: number of leaves; height of the plant; and yield per treatment. Analysis of Variance was used to determine the parameters. The ANOVA revealed that whatever substrate that is applied on the lettuce does not affect the product. Thus, applying wood vinegar solution to the plant will be a cheaper alternative to other commercial fertilizers. | |
