520 3 _aALBERTO, JAYVEE D. Perception of Selected Vendors in Trece Martires City Market on Reading Remate's Obscene Stories. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication major in Journalism. Cavite State University. April 2012. Thesis Adviser: Mrs. Lisette D. Mendoza. The study is entitled Perception of Selected Vendors in Trece Martires City Market on Reading Remate's Obscene Stories. The study was conducted from November 2011 to February 2012. Generally, the study aimed to determine the perception of selected vendors in Trece Martires City Market on Reading Remate's obscene stories. Specifically, it aimed to determine the: (I) demographic characteristics of selected vendors in Trece Martires City Market; (2) level of readership of selected vendors in TMC Market on Reading Remate's obscene stories; (3) perception of selected vendors on Reading Remate's obscene stories and to identify the reasons of these selected vendors in reading obscene stories. Descriptive survey method was used in this study. It followed with the purposive sampling method to determine the target respondents. Fifty-three vendors from Trece Martires City Market were chosen as the respondents of the study. The statistical measures applied were the frequency counts, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Results show that the majority of the respondents who read Remate are female and the high percentage of the respondents who read Remate belonged to the 26-30 age bracket. Majority of the respondents' educational attainment was at High School level. Twenty or 37.7% of the respondents read Remate trice a week and twenty-eight or 52.8% of the respondents read two pages of Remate, these pages included the stories and comics with obscenity. The high percentage of the respondents spent their time in reading Remate for 16-30 minutes. Most of the respondents "agreed" to the statement that says that reading obscene stories had effects and "strongly disagreed" to the statement saying that reading such materials should be patronized because there were lessons learned from it. Their answers were based on their perception to the things they viewed as wrong and not good for the readers. Most of the reasons stated by the respondents in reading Remate were because it was their pastime; they were avid readers of the fictional series; and lastly because there was just no other reading material available. It implies that obscene stories may influence the readers mostly the teenagers. These findings suggests that people who read this kind of article should be responsible and do not adopt what have read or seen on the newspaper and the writers of these kind of article knows the possible effects of the stories or article they will write for the readers.
