A study undertaken to determine the perception of senior citizens on generic drugs. Specifically, it aimed to determine the following: socio demographic profile of the senior citizens; common generic drugs purchased by senior citizens; frequency of purchases in generic drugs; quantity of generic drugs purchased per transaction; and perception of senior citizens on generic drugs. The study was conducted in selected areas in Cavite namely: Alfonso, Dasmarinas City, Indang, General Trias, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), Silang, Tanza, Tagaytay City and Trece Martires City. A total of 263 head of the senior citizens served as the participants of the study. Data were gathered from November 2015 to January 2016 with the support of interview questionnaire. The research used the descriptive method to determine the perception of senior citizens on generic drugs. The descriptive statistical tool such as mean, ranking, frequency distribution and percentage were utilized to describe and identify the socio demographic characteristics of senior citizen, generic drugs commonly purchased, frequency of purchases in generic drugs, quantity of generic purchased per transaction. Likert scale was used to determine the perception of senior citizens on generic drugs. Results revealed that most of the senior citizens were in the age range from 60 — 99. More than half were female (56%) and married (70 %). The senior citizens agree that buying generic drugs can save money with a mean rating of 3.71. The participants agree that the use of generic drugs is safe with a mean rating of 3.47, they also agree that generic drugs are effective as branded drugs with a mean rating of 3.43. The senior citizen agree that generic drugs are more affordable with a mean rating of 3.62, the availability of generic drugs in the store / locality rated as high perception with a mean rating of 3.41. The senior citizen disagree that the generic drugs are used if the condition is not serious with a mean rating of 2.68 and lastly, senior citizen rated that generic drug is a good substitute to branded drugs as high perception with a mean rating of 3.45. The overall perception of senior citizen on generic drugs has a grand mean of 3.39, which reveals that senior citizens have positive perception on generic drugs in selected areas of Cavite.
