The study was conducted to improve information dissemination through use of digital technology for making public announcements. The advancement in the technologies related to wireless communication has led to the emergence of several engineering designs to aid the human requirements. This paper presented a combination of wireless technology with LED display boards formalized by designing and integrating the hardware and software using Gizduino microcontroller, GSM module, and moving LED display. The proposed design surpassed the difficulties faced by previous moving text message display modules using wired entry via computer, keyboard, or remote control entry (small distance). The message was sent through a cellphone which was accepted by the GSM module SIM 900 (master).

The design project mainly focused on the transmission of textual data through air interface by the use of GSM through asynchronous serial communication. The data were processed by the microcontroller on both ends. Then, they were displayed on LED only after entering unique pass key. In addition to that, address matching was done, and data were received only by the dedicated receiver. The LED display system was aimed at the colleges and universities for displaying day-to-day information continuously or at regular intervals during the working hours. Being a GSM based system; it offers flexibility to display flash news or announcements faster than the programmable system. Authorized number was done by the Gizduino microcontroller, and the stored number in EEPROM was compared with the incoming number. The message was consideredvalid only after the incoming cellphone number was validated. Further, the same SMS was itself sent by GSM module (master) to multiple LED display boards which were connected via different GSM modules (slaves). The authorized person needs a load to display the announcement messages. The message was then stored in EEPROM so that the messages would continuously loop. If the power failed, the messages would automatically be deleted.

Intensive testing and checking were conducted before it was subjected to final evaluation. The design project was tested by using a mobile phone authorized number.

System worked and met the expected outcomes of the prototype. The performance of the design project was evaluated and found to be very efficient, reliable, beneficial, accurate, and economical when used as informative.
