A study was conducted to design, develop, and fabricate a machine that automatically wither, fire, and grind the fresh herbal leaves based on the time programmed. The designed multi-crop green tea processing machine comprised software and hardware. Study tests and evaluate the system according to moisture content loss and fineness of leaves.

PIC Basic Pro Programming Language was used in developing the software of the system. The PIC16F877A microcontroller was programmed to control the container of the leaves, heatgun to wither and fire leaves, and blender to grind the processed leaves based on the kind and desired weight of the leaves being chose. The system provided the following components: 20 x 4 Liquefied crystal display, two push buttons for selection & for confirmation and emergency button for the safe operation
of the machine. The machine also consist seven relay drivers which control the motors, two solid state relay to switch on & off the heatgun and belender, six limit switches to shift operation by the motion of a machine part or presence of an object, six DC geared motors for the control in the movement of container and blender, heatgun for withering process, blender for grinding process and a power supply which automatically adapted to the supply voltage.

The evaluation of the Automated Multi-crop green tea processing machine showed that the machine performed according to its design function. The leaves must attain atleast 77% up to 80% moisture content removal. The results revealed that the microcontroller-based machine for automated-multi crop green tea processing machine obtained an overall accuracy of 100% desired percent moisture content loss, at a maximum of 33 minutes withering time only compared to the maximum sun dried time at a maximum of 6 hours with 100% accuracy also. The level of fineness of the processed leaves was also achieved according to the market’s requirement fineness.
The machine had a total cost of P35, 907.00.
