VICEDO, JOHN ERIC A. Effects of Initial Backfat Thickness and Parity on Two
Consecutive Lactational Performances among Sows of Different Genotypes.
Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Prof. Mariedel L. Autriz.
The study was conducted at the Jaro Development Corporation (JDC) Farm Ill at Aguado, Trece Martires City, Cavite from June to December, 2015 to determine the effects of breed, parity and initial backfat thickness of sows on two consecutive lactational performances. Productive traits such as 21 days weight, litter size at weaning

and pre-weaning mortality were used as variables.
On the evaluation of results, parity and backfat thickness did not influence (P>0.05) any of the productive traits used. Furthermore, litter size at weaning was not also affected by breed, parity or backfat thickness.
On the other hand, breed significantly affected (P<0.05) the 21 days weight at the 2nd cycle but then insignificant in the 1 st cycle (P>0.05). However, Fl sows produced heavier piglets than the other breeds for both cycles.
Breed also significantly influenced (P<0.05) the pre-weaning mortality for the first cycle but insignificant in the 2 cycle (P>0.05). Highest incidence of pre-weaning mortality was observed on the landrace breeds for two consecutive cycles. But, an increased mortality at pre-weaning stage was observed on the second cycle of sow's lactational performance.
