Internship Program for the Students of International Studies in Cavite State University. Undergraduate thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies major in Southeast Asian Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Dr. Marietta C. Mojica.
The study was conducted to describe the demographic and socio-economic
characteristics of International Studies (IS) students who underwent college internship,
describe the characteristics of the college internship of IS students from 2009 to 2015, describe the college internship experiences of IS students from 2009 to 2015 during: pre-
internship, during and post-internship, determine the extent of satisfaction of IS students on their college internship experiences in terms of a) College Internship Administration and Preparation, b) Internship Coordinator, c) Site/Company, and d) Site Supervisor,
determine the effectiveness of the college internship program in terms of a) Personal, b) Interpersonal, c) Academic, d) Employment (Job Specific), and d) Civic, and determine
the relationships between the selected variables and the perceived effectiveness of IS college internship program.
Descriptive correlation method was used to analyze the relationship of the
variables. A total of 64 International Studies students who already conducted internship program were the participants of the study.
Half of the participants are still studying. Majority of the participants specialized in European Studies.
vii
Majority of the participants were female, single and with age ranging from 18-21. Less than half were employed with monthly income ranging from P 1,500.00 to P75,000.00. The length of work experience ranged from 4 months to 63 months (5 years).
The study revealed that almost half of the participants conducted internship on 2015 and almost half chose DFA as their site internship. Some had enjoyed the privileges during internship, commonly food. One of the common natures of work of the participants during internship was encoding data.
The Department Chairperson was primarily asked with regard to the "objectives of the internship while the Department Internship Coordinator was asked more on the "grading system". Information source during internship mostly came from the site internship Supervisor as well the feedback information on internship performance.
Among the 195 significant/noteworthy experiences mentioned by the participants, personal development was the most common.
The five parameters to determine the extent of satisfaction on internship experience all received very high satisfaction ratings. However, the computed grand mean indicated that highest rating was given to site/company internship. Overall, the extent of satisfaction towards college internship of International Studies was "very high".
The five parameters which measured the effectiveness of IS internship were all rated excellent by the participants with the personal indicator having the highest grand mean. Overall, most of the participants gave an excellent rating.
The test of relationships revealed significant relationships between selected demographic and economic variables and perceived effectiveness of IS internship and between satisfaction and perceived effectiveness of IS internship.
