Productivity and Profitability of Hydroponics Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) Using Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid. This study entitled “Productivity and Profitability of Hydroponics Lettuce Using Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid” was conducted from October 2016 to March 2017. This study aimed to (1) determine the growth and yield of hydroponics lettuce in response to Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid, (2) determine the effect of Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid as nutrient solution for hydroponics lettuce in terms of the number of leaves, height of plant, weight of plant, and length of roots, (3) determine the actual cost and sales of lettuce in hydroponics system using Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid as nutrient solution, and (4) determine the return on investment of hydroponics lettuce production using Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid as nutrient solution.

The researchers used Mexican Wild Sunflower for making the Fermented Plant Juice because it contains higher NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) than other plant
based Fermented Plant Juices. It is commonly seen on roadsides which makes it easy to obtain. Also, Mexican Wild Sunflowers are considered weeds which means it is not commonly used and using it as a nutrient solution may discover its significance.

This study utilized Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) wherein three treatments were used: SNAP Solution as Treatment 0, Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice as Treatment 1, and Fish Amino Acid as Treatment 2, There were four replications per treatment, with 25 plants (var. Romaine) per replication. For every 14 liters of water, 40 mL of its corresponding solution were mixed.

There was no significant difference between the yield of hydroponics lettuce in response to Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid.

The cost of production of Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid are the same, and the sales of the hydroponics lettuce using Fish Amino Acid is higher than that of the sales of hydroponics lettuce using Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice. It was proven that the production of hydroponics lettuce using Fermented Mexican Wild Sunflower Plant Juice and Fish Amino Acid is profitable based on the computation of the return on investment. Also, the return on investment of the hydroponics lettuce from FPJ and FAA is higher than that of the return on investment of the lettuce using SNAP Solution. Therefore, the use of organic fertilizers has greater profit compared to commercial fertilizers.
