ESTRELLANA, VAN SANDRO H. Concentration of Blood Metabolites in Nutritionally Challenged Non-descript Pubertal Goats. Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Dr. Cristina F. Olo
This study was conducted to determine and establish the concentrations of blood plasma cholesterol, glucose and hemoglobin, and determine the relationship of blood plasma cholesterol, glucose and hemoglobin concentrations with body weight and body condition score of nutritionally challenged non-descript pubertal goats. Twenty goats were used in this study. The goats were randomly distributed into two treatments. One group was fed with 100% roughage while the other group was fed with roughage and supplemented with concentrate.
Results show that the average concentration of glucose in goats fed with 100% roughage was 31.3 mg/dL and goats fed with roughage and concentrate was 3 1.7 mg/dL. The concentration values of plasma cholesterol in goats fed with 100% roughage was 112 mg/dL and 115.1 mg/dL in goats fed with roughage and concentrate. Supplementation of concentrate did not significantly change the concentration of blood metabolites of goats in a 4-week duration of concentrate supplementation. Established a preliminary blood metabolites concentration of non-descript pubertal goats. There was no relationship between blood glucose concentration, blood hemoglobin concentration, body weight and
body condition score.
