The study was conducted to describe and examine the savings, investment and spending practices of police officers in selected cities of Cavite. Specifically, the study intended to describe the socio-economic characteristics of police officers in selected cities in Cavite, to determine the financial resources of the police officers, to determine the saving characteristics and practices of police officers, determine the top priorities of the police officers in terms of types of investment, to determine the investment characteristics and practices of police officers, to determine the spending practices of police officers, to ascertain if there is a significant relationship between the socio-economic characteristics of police officers and their saving practices, to ascertain if there is a significant relationship between the socio-economic characteristics of police officers and their investment practices, to ascertain if there is a significant relationship between the socio-economic characteristics of police officers and their spending practices, to determine the problems encountered in savings, investment and spending by the police officers. Two hundred sixty-four police officers served as participants in the study from the cities of Cavite namely Tagaytay City, General Trias City, Dasmarinas City, Imus City and Bacoor City. Proportionate Sampling was used in getting the number of participants for the selected cities of Cavite.
The descriptive statistical tools were used to determine the socio-economic characteristics, savings practices, investment practices, spending practices and problems encountered of police officers. Percentage, Mean, Frequency Count, Spearman's Rank Correlation, Point-Biserial Correlation, and Chi Square were used for statistical analysis of data.
Based on the result, for their saving practices, 91percent of police officers saved portion of their salary while 10 percent were not saving; 93 percent of the participants saved from P5,000 and below and only seven percent saved from P5, 001 and above. Forty-eight percent uses savings account while 67 percent used other methods of saving. Fifty-three percent of the participants chose to save while 57 percent were encouraged by their wife/husband, parents, brother/sister, friends and co-officers to save. Fifty-four percent were saving monthly while 47 percent were saving daily, weekly, twice a month, quarterly and yearly. The study shows that planning on saving, setting saving goals, deciding the priorities and monitoring the savings are all interpreted as often with a grand mean of 3.87, 3.61, 4.05 and 3.93 respectively. In the case of investment practices, 72 percent of the participants were investing while twenty-eight percent were not. Investing on property and real estate named first in savings priority with a frequency of 97. The studies show that planning on investing, setting investment goals and monitoring the investment are all interpreted as often with a grand mean of 4.05, 4.11, 3.95 and 4.04 respectively. As for their spending practices, making a budget plan and implementing the plan are all interpreted as often with a grand mean of 3.72 and 3.66 respectively.
