GUINANAO, SANTIAGO II G., RODEROS, WALLY D., and TEPORA, BENIGNO D. Design and Development of Wireless Detector of Solar Radiation and Precipitation. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2005. Adviser: Engr. Mary-Anne D. Costa.
The Design and Development of Wireless Detector of Solar Radiation and Precipitation was conducted at Mahabang Kahoy, Indang, Cavite. The design was tested and evaluated at the Coffee Nursery and Genetic Resource Center, Central. Experiment Station, CvSU, Indang, Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to: construct a remote station that can measure solar radiation and precipitation; design a base station that can retrieve information transmitted by the remote station; interface the base station to the PC to display the retrieved information from the remote station; create a software that would interface the whole system; design and construct an antenna, which served as a transmitter and receiver of data; conduct testing and evaluation of the system; and determine the cost computation of the system. The design project was mainly composed of base station and remote station, RF circuit, micro-controller, oscillator circuit, antenna and the software. The measured solar radiation and precipitation of the remote station were transmitted to the base station. The PC displayed the retrieved data from the remote station. The micro-controller served at the brain of the system for it controlled the system's operation. After several testing, evaluation of the wireless weather station was conducted at the Coffee Nursery and Genetic Resources Building, Central Experiment Station, Cavite State University. The actual evaluation was divided into two stages, the initial and final evaluation. During the initial evaluation, the remote station was installed 1KM from the base station, The over-all function including data transmission through wireless communication, data processing and the actual readings of data was evaluated. The wireless detector of solar radiation and precipitation was transferred from Coffee Nursery and Genetic Resource Building to Biological Science Building. The idea to transfer the location was endorsed by the design project adviser. The user was able to collect much data using wireless detector of solar radiation and precipitation with the distance of 700 m from the base station.
