The experiment, Growth and Yield Response of Sweet Potato to Different Kinds of Organic Fertilizers" , was conducted at the Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite from November, 1981 to February, 1982 to determine the effects of organic fertilizers on the growth and yield of sweet potato.
An area of 120 square meter field was plowed and harrowed three times at an interval of two weeks. The variety of sweet potato used in the experiment was the Georgia Red. Organic fertilizers was applied at varying rates.: Treatment 1 (with 30 tons of chicken dung per hectare) , Treatment 2 (with 30 tons of cow manure per hectare), Treatment 3 (with 30 tons of horse manure per hectare) , Treatment 4 (with 30 tons of carabao manure per hectare) and no fertilizer for Treatment 5 (control) .
Treatment 1 produced the highest yield in terms of number and weight of roots, length and weight of stem. The control plants produced the lowest yield and number Of marketable tubers as compared to fertilized treatments The study showed that the application of chicken dung stimulated top growth and increased significantly the production of marketable tubers 0 Ants and aphids were observed attacking the plants but the damage were insignifican to No disease was noted in the experiment.
