The study focused in creating three components: the controller unit, software, and the storage tank to be used for irrigation. It aimed to evaluate the developed controller unit and software according to its function to initiate the irrigation from the user's input, and to release the desired amount of water. The water storage tank was also evaluated for its ability to repeatedly refill itself.
With the use of the Arduino microcontroller and the software, Arduino IDE, the controller unit and program that enabled the irrigation to take place were developed. The LCD and keypad components inputted and outputted the interface needed for the choice of settings. The RTC determined if the current time was the inputted time by the user, and finally, the relay operated the solenoid valve, which initiated the irrigation. The water storage tank had two main components, a 38-L drum and the float valve or ballcock system. The float valve was responsible for the automatic refilling of the tank upon the release of water.
Both the controller unit and software were found to be working properly. Each of the 10 trials had 100 percent accuracy based on the time setting, and a 99.95 percent accuracy based on the water amount setting. The water storage tank was able to refill itself equivalent to the volume of water withdrawn for each of the 10 trials. The total cost of the system amounted to P4, 612.00.
